Liberia's Supreme Court has directed the electoral commission to proceed with a presidential runoff

- Liberia's Supreme Court has directed the electoral commission to proceed with a presidential runoff

- The run off is to take place because of fraud complaints

African country, Liberia, has been given a nod by the county's Supreme Court, allowing the electoral commission to proceed with a presidential runoff which was delayed for a month over fraud complaints.

"The stay order issued on November 6, 2017... against the NEC (National Elections Commission) is hereby lifted and the NEC is ordered to proceed with the scheduling of the runoff elections in accordance with the constitution," Associate Justice Philip Banks said on behalf of the court in Monrovia.

The country's popular parties, unity Party and opposition Liberty Party had complained of the irregularities and fraud that trailed the results of the first round of voting on October 10 and called for a total re-run of elections.
The request for a runoff was first denied by the court which said it was "not convinced that burden of proof was met", the planned runoff between is expected to take place between former international footballer George Weah and current Vice-President Joseph Boakao.

A five-man panel that was created to check into the voter registration roll before the second round, was called when no single candidate gained more than 50 percent of the vote on October 10.
