- FIFA suspended the current head over his indictment in a corruption scandal
Ex Brazilian striker back in the 1994 World Cup-winning side, Romario,
said on Wednesday that he is out to clean up the Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF).
His statement is coming after the world football body, FIFA suspended the current head, Marco Polo Del Nero, who was accused of graft.
Romario revealed his candidacy via his Facebook account where he recounted that many people had advised him to run for the post.
He wrote via Facebook; "No one has fought more vigorously than me against this band."
51 year old Romario, who has been a senator in the Latin American country, Brazil since 2015 said he met all the criteria to head the country's football confederation owing to his contribution to football on and off the field.
FIFA had imposed a 90-day provisional ban from all football activities on the former head of the Confederation of Brazilian Football, Del Nero, since last Friday.
Once served as a member of the FIFA Council, Nero happens to be one of the latest prominent South American football official to be placed on a ban by the governing body in relations to an investigation it carried out into a vast corruption scandal.
