Customs reveals how smugglers import rice to Nigeria


The Nigeria Border Customs Service has revealed new strategy utilized by dealers to move rice into the nation through the border axis of Mubi in Adamawa State.

Adamawa/Taraba Area Comptroller Mr Adetoye Francis of the NCS uncovered this while assessing a vehicle and two tricycles stacked with suspected bag of rice in Mubi town on Wednesday.

Adetoye said the crimianals called smugglers now utilized tipper lorries conveying sand, with packs of rice spread underneath the sand in an endeavor to mislead custom authorities.

"They smugglers stow away under the front of on-going development works going ahead in Mubi by utilizing tippers implied for passing on sand for carrying.

They cover the things with sand.

"The truck you are seeing here was captured along the Mubi-Sahuda outskirt street with 52 sacks of rice secured with sand," Francis said.

He recognized the officers and men of the Mubi office of the force for their sense of duty regarding avoiding smuggling at the bordertown and guaranteed them of his help constantly

Francis stated Smuggling have been the problems the Nigerian Customs have been facing in recent years, despite the warning from the security force and federal government, they (smugglers) are ready to go extra miles in overpowering our forces.
