Trouble in the middle east  over the struggle for influence between Saudi Arabia and Iran as Yemen’s Houthi group fired a ballistic missile toward Riyadh which was shot down by Saudi air defenses yesterday.
The latest information was made known by Saudi-led coalition in what it termed as an attack that could escalate a proxy war between the kingdom and Iran.
Thankfully, there were no reports of casualties or damage. However a UN human rights spokesman said coalition air strikes had killed at least 136 non-combatants in wartorn Yemen since December 6.
Report from the Iran-aligned Houthi movement disclosed the movement had aimed the missile towards the Saudi royal court at al-Yamama palace, where a meeting of Saudi leaders was going on.
On the part of the Saudi-led coalition, it said the latest missile was fired towards residential areas and there had been no damage.
The coalition via a Saudi state news agency SPA said the Iranian-made missiles were a threat to regional and international security as it also accused the Houthis of using humanitarian entry points into Yemen to smuggle in missiles from Saudi Arabia’s regional arch enemy, Iran.
The United States via a Pentagon spokesman said it was aware of the reported missile attack and was working closely with Saudi Arabia to ensure the country have the resources needed to defend their territory against indiscriminate attacks on civilian-inhabited areas.
According to information the conflict in Yemen has killed more than 10,000 people and displaced over two million.
