- Workers in Osun commence indefinite strike after Christmas
Last week Friday, The Osun state Labour leaders via a memo announced it will commence industrial strike action after Christmas over the modulation of salary, lack of promotion among others.
Well, the threat has become a reality as the organization leader led by the chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, Wednesday led other unions’ leaders to the State Secretariat at Abere, Oshogbo to shut down the place as workers commenced the indefinite strike.
According to information, the NLC chairman, the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mr. Amudah Wakeel and other Labour leaders were at the secretariat gate as early as 7am on Wednesday to ensure all workers complied with the directive from the labour leaders.
While speaking to newsmen, the NUT chairman said all workers joined in the strike including workers from grade level 01 to 07 who were collecting full salary because the strike was not based on the issue of half salary alone.
He said “We are on strike in Osun. We are here at the State Government Secretariat, Abere to ensure a total compliance to the strike directive."
He further revealed non of the workers came to resume work today because of the directives that they should stay at home.
In his assurance, he confirmed that the labour was indivisible which was why even those collecting full salaries also complied. He further revealed the strike was not about half salary alone as there were issues of promotion, pension etc.
“The compliance is total and we are happy about it. Nobody can divide us. The labour is one indivisible family whether you are on level one, 13 or any level”, he finally said.
