Nigerian past failure in acquiring weapons from the United States is about to come to an end as the United States ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington has presented letters of offer and acceptance (LOA) to the Nigerian military,the Nigerian air force (NAF) to be specific for the planned sale of the A29 Super Tucano warplane.
The presentation of the letters was made to Sadique Abubakar, chief of air staff, at NAF headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
During April, the US government had approved the sale of 12 Super Tucano A-29 ground attack aircraft worth $593m, a deal which would include supplying the Nigerian armed forces with ammunition, training and aircraft maintenance.
At the presentation, Symington emphasized that if there is peace in Nigeria then West Africa as a whole and the world in general are secured.
He also added that the US govern men is committed to helping Nigeria end the Boko Haram menace and all forms of terrorism that posed threats to peace.
The acquisition of the Super Tucano Aircraft as part of the Nigerian Arsenal will help build the confidence military. The deal is expected to come to a close in January 2018 to review the LOA before final endorsements by both parties.
The Nigerian Air force via Abubaka expressed appreciation for the US government’s support towards it in the fight against Boko Haram.
He also praised the personal commitment of the ambassador to ensuring that the Super Tucano aircraft deal become finalised.
