- The Union body tell FG to disburse N30 billion fund
The Nigerian educational sector is currently in disarray as this year alone there have been different kinds of educational strike owing to the attitude portrayed by Government.
Presently,The non-teaching staff across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria are currently on strike owing to the lack of payment and meeting of agreement by the Federal Government.
The Non teaching staff of the universities yesterday urged the Nigerian government to disburse fund of N30billion for the three striking unions as part of the conditions to be met for it to call off the ongoing strike.
According to the National Vice President of SSANU, Mr Alfred Jimoh, after a meeting at Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State,he said the government should release the N30billion according to it agreement so it would be added to the already released N4.6billion and be shared within the three non-teaching staff.
Alfred Jimoh said, “The government should release more funds to take care of the arrears of the earned allowance of the three non-teaching staff of the Nigerian universities and to commence the immediate implementation of the allowances to forestall further accumulation of the arrear."
He also spoke on the tactics the Federal Government was trying to use as he accused the FG of using divide and rule system among the universities workers. Jimoh however, stressed that the ongoing strike would not end until demands are met.
The striking body further pleaded with students and parents saying it was not it fault it went on strike but it became necessary as the Government was not paying attention.
The Union body also called on stakeholders to discuss with the FG to meet it demands.
