As the tension of who own Jerusalem rises in the middle east, Germany via it Foreign Minister, Sigmar Gabriel, today, has called on the US, saying a decision by U.S. President, Donald Trump, to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would be “counterproductive.''
The Minister in his statement where he referred to Isreal and Palestine hold claim to Jerusalem as it seat of power said;
“A solution to the Jerusalem problem can only be found through direct negotiations between the two parties,’’
“Anything that escalates the crisis during these times is counterproductive."
Although, Pres. Trump is expected to announce where the US stands this week which would either ways turn out to affect the US foreign policy.
Trump in his opinion said the status of Jerusalem must be decided in a peaceful process between the Israel and Palestine nationals.
However, the Government of Palestine has issued out warning to the US not to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital or else risk destroying the peaceful process.
Apart from Germany, the European Union has also called on the US to make a right decision that wouldn't jeopardize the peace in the middle east.
