- Buhari appoints 209 chairmen and 1258 members to fill positions in governing boards of agencies and parastatals
Biggest appointments of the year is coming at the close of 2017 as Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has approved the constitution of the governing boards of agencies and parastatals.
The President also went ahead to appoint 209 chairmen and 1258 members to fill the various board positions.
A statement confirming the new development was made public by Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the government of the federation.
The statement read: “Mr. President considered the approval for the constitution of the Boards as well as the appointments, very necessary, so as to provide a proper Governance and oversight structure for Government Agencies and Parastatals. The constitution of the boards with the appointments, is a demonstration of this Government’s efforts aimed at building strong institutions of Governance, and by extension, improving the quality of Policy formulation and supervision.
According to Boss these latest appointments only represent a fraction of substantial number of pending board appointments as the statement confirmed that some other appointments are still being processed and will be released very soon.
“The appointments take immediate effect and Honourable Ministers are advised to inaugurate the boards after letters of appointment have been issued.”
This is the largest appointments from the APC led government since their coming to power in 2015
