128 countries condemn US decision on Jerusalem during UN emergency meeting

- 128 countries condemn US decision on Jerusalem during UN emergency meeting
- US insists it will move it embassy to Jerusalem
As the declaration of US Pres. Donald Trump, decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Isreal lingers, the lone decision on Jerusalem has been widely condemned by UN general assembly irrespective of US ‘bullying’ over vote of censure.
The world body general assembly has voted overwhelmingly against Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in a rare emergency meeting.
Out of the 193-nations of general assembly, 128 nations voted in favour of the condemnation and nine against with 35 in abstentions.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump had threatened to withhold aid to any country which condemned it decision
An example was African country, Mali, who withdrew their sponsorship of the resolution, in response to the US threats of retaliation.
However, the majority of countries remain resolute and shrugged off the US bullying tactics.
US allies including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and South Africa included their names at the last minute to the document condemning the decision.
The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, stressed that the United States is the single largest contributor to the UN and expected in return a total support for its decision.
She however, insisted that America will put it embassy in Jerusalem because it is what the American people wanted.
She said; ''This vote will make a difference at how America looks at the UN, and how we look at countries who disrespect us at the UN.”
