Six injured as hoodlums attack traders in Edo


Not less than six people on Wednesday, got different degrees of wounds in a conflict between street hoodlums and some foreign money exchangers.

The fracas happened at the Ekiosa Market, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was reported that the conflict began after the hooligans made an attempt to steal money from the money exchangers, which the dealers energetically stood up against to.

The issue prompted a battle between the suspected hooligans and the money exchangers, leaving around six people seriously harmed.

One of the dealers, Muhammad Basiru, revealing the issue to newsmen said one of the hooligans, named Osaze, has been coming to beg them for cash, "however today, he brough some of his street hooligans to extort our hard currency in the market."

Alhaji Gbadamasi Saliu, Chairman, Hausa Community, Edo State, talking on the issue said he was in his office when he got a call that criminals had launch an attack on some of his people that exchange hard monetary forms at the Ekiosa Market.

Saliu said the circumstance had been brought under control by the security agents deployed to the market.

He expressed gratitude to the security offices for their immediate response on the issue.
