Several injured as FUOYE students, Okada riders clash over transport fare


Not less than 20 victims were harmed when undergraduate of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and business motorcyclists, some of whom were said to be indigenes of the town, started a fight on tuesday.

Sources in the town disclosed to DAILY POST that the crisis had begun when an undergraduate and a business motorcyclist had a fight over transport fare, which deteriorated.

A source said "the business biker slapped the undergraduate and that prompted a battle between them, which different undergraduate hooked into".

The source stated that "it was because of the outrage packaged by the undergraduate over what they see as abuse by the business motorcyclists and sundry business administrators in the town."

The conflict was said to have deteriorated when the business motorcyclists were said to have prepared against the undergraduate, who were likewise battle ready for the motorcyclists owner in the town.

The harmed undergraduate were given medical care at the college's hospital and were released.

The fight left some of the undergraduate stranded after leaving lecture room, as a result of the pressure in the community.

Talking on the occurrence, the Public Relations Officer of FUOYE, Mr. godfre Bagji, said clarified that it was "a conflict between some of our undergraduate and business motorcyclists," saying "it was an occurrence that happened immediately outside the university campus."
