EPL: Mourinho defends Conte’s tactics in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Man City


Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho, has said it is out of line to start criticism on Antonio Conte over the Blues' thrashing in their 1-0 game against Manchester City on Sunday.

Chelsea, who are still EPL defending champion's, performed woefully at the Etihad Stadium as Bernardo Silva's second-half strike secured full three points for Pep Guardiola's squad.

Conte has additionally been scrutinized for selecting to play Eden Hazard as Chelsea's false striker, a choice which hazard was obviously not pleased with.

However, Mourinho said the criticism towards Chelsea and Conte has been out of line.

"Chelsea are still the EPL champion. Chelsea was solid against us. They began extremely solid and made trouble in that underlying piece of the game.

"However yesterday, [Monday] I think Roy  Hodgson was solid. We were expecting Jairo Riedewald in guarded midfield, yet he accompanied a 4-4-2, two forceful strikers together, solid noticeable all around then dropping back to protect.

"Roy was great. I would prefer even not to accuse my players and say the begin was bad. 'The begin was bad since they [Palace] were great.

Chelsea will now face Crystal palace in the EPL competition this weekend, before travelling to Spain ahead of their second leg game against Barcelona.
