Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn steps down following protests says he wants to the part of the country's solution
It seems this is the season of the resignation of some African leaders, first it was South African President, Jacob Zuma, who was first to resign, Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has joined on him on the resignation list.
According to reports, the Prime Minister of African second populous country, Hailemariam Desalegn, Today in an announcement submitted his resignation letter as the head of the country.
The resignation came following the worst ever witnessed anti-government protests in a quarter-century which took place in the country.
Desalegn during the announcement stated that he is hopeful his shocking decision would aid concerted reforms make headway in creating what he called a lasting peace in the country.
The Prime Minister in broadcast via the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation disclosed he wanted to be part of the country's solution.
It is yet to be made public if the country's law making body has accepted his resignation but Desalegn said he believe the demand and questions of the public must be met and given answer to.
Prior to the resignation, Ethiopia has been mared by months of protests calling for wider freedom. The protests have led to the death of hundreds and tens of thousands imprisoned.
Few weeks ago, the government had disclosed that more than 6,500 opposition figures, journalists and others were detained following the prime minister plan in January to widen the democratic space for all.
Aftermath of the protests saw to the disrupion of business activities in the African country economy.
However, 53 year old Desalegn stressed that he will continue in his role pending when the transition of power is completed.
In addition he is set to remove himself from the ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front.
