Airport shooting delayed Nigerians’ evacuation from Libya — NEMA
National Emergency Management Agency has ascribed the further delay in emptying the fourth set of stranded Nigerians in Libya to the exercises of gunmen activities in the North African nation.
NEMA clarified that however three sets had been repatriated from Libya since the activity started, the clearing of the fourth set was deferred because of shootout among gunmen activities at the air terminal in Tripoli, the capital of the North African nation.
Nigerian Government has been carrying in sets a few Nigerians who are stranded in Libya.
Talking with columnists at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday, the South - South Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Ejike Martins, said 465 trapped Nigerians were repatriated from Libya to Nigeria as the fourth sets of returnees.
" We comprehend there was issue at the Tripoli Airport among militant group and there was a shootout and this influenced flight delay from that air terminal.
" The shutdown of the airplane terminal was because of the exercises of the militant group who deferred the arrival. Yet, the airplane terminal has been opened, " said the NEMA organizer who is likewise the Head of Operations for the activity.
He called attention to that while the returnees were not stayed outdoors in one place in the North African nation, they were constantly consulted out of wherever they had been kept.
He said, " As normal, this is in continuation of the clearing of trapped Nigerians in the north African country. We have 465 repatriated victims, who are going quickly to profile. An activity of this nature is said to have hitches.
" The Federal Government is attempting to guarantee the clearing is done as arranged. It requires process and we are tailing it.”
