- Pres. George Weah reveals his plan for Liberia
The president-elect of Liberia, George Weah, has revealed his plan for the country as he takes the political seat of the country from Tomorrow, January 1st, 2018 from Pres. Johnson Sirleaf.
He declared that social transformation at the grassroots level would be the “singular mission and focus” of his administration.
This was made know while Weah was delivering his victory speech at his party’s headquarters in Monrovia on Saturday.
In the statement, Weah promised to better the lives of ordinary Liberians through the instrumentality of pro-poor governance and fight corruption, which is a major menace facing not just Liberia but most African country.
Read extract from his speech;
“Today, I make it known publicly that transforming the lives of all Liberians is the singular mission and focus of my presidency.
“Over the next few days, we will assemble the government that is committed to fighting for the ideas that inspired our campaign, and dedicated to delivering for the Liberian people.
“Everyone that will be chosen to serve will and must be dedicated to the ideas of grassroots social transformation.
“Partisans looking to cheat the Liberian people through the menace of corruption will have no place in my administration,’’ he declared.
He also appreciated the effort of the outgoing President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf for maintaining peace and order in the country over the last 12 years, and for the commitment she had towards the first democratic transfer of power in 73 years.
He also reach out to his rival in the just-concluded presidential runoff election and outgoing Vice President Joseph Boakai, saying he will be counting on his advice and contributions.
