- China's financial hub, Shanghai sets to limit population to 25 million people
- The reason for this is as a result of the 'big city diseases'
Asian country, China, which happens to be the most populous country in the world  have put plan in place to limit the population of people in Shanghai, which is it financial hub.
According to information, the limit set for Shanghai in new plan is 25 million people by 2035.
According to the cabinet, the reason for this move is a quest to manage the “big city diseases."
The State Council via its website on Tuesday made it known that the goal to control the population size of the city was part of Shanghai’s master plan for 2017-2035 which has already being approved by the government body.
According to the state media, it defined “big city diseases as arising when a megacity becomes plagued with environmental pollution, traffic congestion and a shortage of public services, including education and medical care.’’
Some of other China’s biggest cities also face surging house prices, stirring fears of a property bubble.
Shanghai, which is located on China’s eastern coast at the end of 2015 had a permanent population of 24.15 million.
Apart from reducing the population of Shanghai, the city had also said it would increase its efforts to protect the environment and historic sites as part of its master plan.
