Atiku exempt from voting at the PDP national convention


The Peoples Democratic Party has said that previous Vice President Atiku Abubakar won't vote at its December 9  national convention, which holds at Eagles Square, Abuja.

As indicated by an announcement from the gathering, this is a direct result of  the arrangement of the Constitution that arrangements with new contestants into the party Be that as it may, the gathering said he would be permitted to talk at the Convention.

While uncovering more points of interest, the gathering representative, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who talked with writers at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, said the gathering's constitution ought to be utilized as a guide on the issue.

Adeyeye stated, "you should simply get the constitution of the gathering and see whether Atiku is fit the bill to vote or not."

“He will be part of our convention in abuja. He will be allowed to make a speech at the convention, but he wont be allowed voting at the convention.”

Chapter 2 (Part 1) of the party’s constitution deals with admission of members into the party.

On procedure for rejoining, sections 8 and 9 explain, ” A person who desires to rejoin the party after leaving it shall –(a) apply to his Ward Secretary for re-admission; and

(b) unless given waiver by the National Working Committee,

be placed on probation for a period of not less than one year.

(9) Subject to the provision of Section

8(b), a member on probation shall have the right to attend all meetings of the
party, but shall not be entitled to vote at such meetings, nor shall he be eligible to contest for elective office on the platform of the party. ”

Atiku, who was a foundation member of the party, decamped to the All Progressives Congress in 2014, and vowed that the new party would be his “last bus stop.”

He rejoined the PDP from the APC last Sunday.
